CITY OF DENTON

As a video producer for the City of Denton, I’ve had the opportunity to utilize every aspect of my creative background. From Photography and Filmmaking, to Writing and On Camera work. All in the service of telling the story of this City and its Citizens.

A CELL FOR THE FUTURE

AWARDED: 1ST PLACE, 2022 TATOA PUBLIC EDUCATION CATEGORY

I was tasked with creating a film to inform and educate the public of a new Landfill Cell. I worked closely with the Solid Waste Team over the period of several months as the cell was constructed, showing from start to finish the amount of planning and engineering that went into this multi-million dollar project.

BRENT HULL PRESERVATION WORKSHOP

To demonstrate my on camera abilities, I’ve written and reshot a short introduction to this video.

Ever since discovering Brent Hull on The Build Show Network, i’ve been an enormous fan of the work he does with Historic Preservation. When I learned his team would be putting on an event in collaboration with the City, I jumped at the opportunity to share what they do with our citizens.

The original video can be viewed in full here.

DENTON’S SECRET DONUT SHOP

A secret donut shop in the back of a steakhouse? Surely this sounds like the start of a great film noir novel.

If you find yourself out late on the Denton Square, head by Queenie’s and look for the red light around back. There you’ll find Back Dough. A late night only donut operation with some of the most unique flavors in town.

It won’t be hard to miss, there’s usually a line down the street.

EXPLORE DENTON

On the hottest day of the summer with a projected high of 114, I woke up at dawn to venture on a trail that begins in the heart of downtown Denton.

An underutilized and unknown resource by many, I wanted to draw attention to this unique amenity through a creative approach. So I grabbed a camera (several, actually) strapped one to my bike, and documented my journey south to Lewisville before enjoying an air-conditioned ride home.

EXPLORE DENTON: CLEAR CREEK

Building on the positive reception of episode 1 of the Explore Denton concept, I packed up my gear and brought my son to the north edge of town.

Home to 2900 Acres of forest, Clear Creek is without a doubt my favorite place in Denton. It was a crisp fall day, and we were greeted with tons of wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.

STORYWALK ON THE SQUARE

In Fall of 2021, The Denton Library announced a new Storywalk initiative. This allowed families to walk through the historic Denton Square while supporting local businesses, and enjoying a story along the way.

I wanted to play into the Storytelling theme of the initiative, so I grabbed an old book from Recycled Books & Records, taped a green screen to the first page, and had the video unfold as I opened the book.

I wrote a simple script, and hit the square with my family. We did eventually make our way through the book, but not without first loading up on snacks from Atomic Candy and Gnome Cones: Two of my favorite Denton establishments

A TALE OF TWO BIRTHS

In October of 2021, Denton 911 received 2 calls within 3 days from a pair of dads whose wives were in labor. These incredible Dispatchers walked them through every step of the birth until paramedics were able to arrive.

Getting to tell incredible stories like this is what I've enjoyed most about my time at the City of Denton
