Kindergarten
It’s hard to believe we’re here. I’m sure when most parents have their first child, kindergarten feels like an eternity away. And now its right around the corner.
We had always planned on Lea homeschooling our boys. She’s very qualified, with 13 years in an elementary classroom. She was even Teacher of the Year at her school 3 years ago! Needless to say, our boys will be in great hands. Lea’s last day in the classroom was actually the day before we found the tumor on Ellis’s neck. Not the summer break we anticipated, to say the least!
I can’t really fathom what it would be like for Ellis to have to start Kindergarten at a public school on the tail end of 5 months of Chemo. It feels like we’ve barely had time to think about the start of the school year. So the ability to ease into it at our own pace will end up being another blessing I think.
We’re hoping Round 4 of Chemo will be our last, and with it scheduled to happen this month, we’re more focused on getting through that than mastering our ABC’s. Ellis has a PET scan thursday that should reveal if the Cancer is completey gone or if any remains. We would appreciate your prayers for a positive outcome!
To Ellis’s credit, he’s a really smart kid and already has a great handle on a lot of Kindergarten level concepts.
We had originally planned on a home school co-op, but with Ellis being immunocompromised for a few months, it just makes more sense to wait till next year on anything like that.
I’ve been working very hard in the limited free time available to finish building out our downstairs office to be a great homeschool room where Ellis can learn in a comfortable and productive environment! Save for a few touch ups, it’s just about finished as of this week.
If you would like to bless Ellis in this coming school year, we do have a homeschool classroom wish-list. You can find some necessary items at the links below!
